PAN Registration

PAN Registration , or you can say permanent account number, is a unique 10-digit alphanumeric identity allotted to each taxpayer by the Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. It also serves as an identity proof. PAN Registration is mandatory for financial transactions such as receiving taxable salary or professional fees, sale or purchase of assets above specified limits, buy mutual funds and more. The PAN number remains unaffected by change of address throughout India.

Why PAN Registration is Important?
PAN Registration is mandatory for various purposes, including, Financial Transactions such as receiving taxable salary or professional fees, sale or purchase of jewellery, motor vehicle and property at a value above specified limits, investment in securities (mutual funds, bonds, debentures and equities), Opening a bank account or demat account, raising loans, Making investment in Fixed Deposits, Cash Deposits and for insurance payments. Primary Objective The primary objective of PAN Registration is to use a universal identification key to track financial transactions that might have a taxable component to prevent tax evasion.

Where quoting PAN is necessary

All existing assesses or taxpayers or persons who are required to furnish a return of income, either on behalf of self or others, must obtain PAN. For PAN Registration any person, who intends to enter into economic or financial transactions where quoting PAN is mandatory.

  • Sale/Purchase of Immovable Property valued more than ₹ 10 lakh.
  • Sale/Purchase of all four-wheeler vehicles.
  • Time Deposit with banks aggregating more than ₹ 5 lakh per annum.
  • Opening an account with a banking company.
  • Foreign Travel
  • Cash purchase of /pay orders / banker’s cheques exceding ₹50,000 a day
  • Payment of mutual funds exceeding ₹ 50,000.
  • Payment of Life Insurance Premium exceeding ₹ 50,000 a year.
  • Purchase/Sales of goods/services exceeding ₹ 2 lakh per transaction.

DOCUMENTS FOR PAN Registration

  • Arm's license.
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of driving license.
  • Copy of voter's identity card.
  • Central government health scheme card
  • Ration card with the applicant's photograph.
  • Copy of pensioner card having photograph of the applicant.
  • Copy of Aadhar card issued by Unique Identification Authority of India
  • Photo identity card issued by central government or state government or any other public sector undertaking.
  • Bank certificate containing an attested photograph of the applicant along with bank account number of the applicant
  • Certificate of identity in original signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councillor.
